The Albury-Wodonga Bandits play in the South Conference of the SEABL (South East Australian Basketball League) in the ABA. They have won just the solitary championship in 2001 and have endured a luckless existence since then, several times they were on the brink of extinction with large financial debts but are attempting a long-term return to respectability. The Lady Bandits entered the SEABL's women's competition in 2006 with Opals captain, WNBA MVP and Albury native Lauren Jackson playing in the team's first game. Jackson scored 45 points against the Nunawading Spectres and led the team to a thrilling one-point win. Since then, they have been largely uncompetitive until the 2009 season, with New Zealand Tall Ferns assistant coach Ken Kereama taking the reins, and with the addition of New Zealand international players Lisa Wallbutton and Toni Edmondson, made the SEABL play-offs for the first time in their four-year history.
